How this checker works
- The numbers come from EPA. EPA recommends fixing a home at 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L), which it lists as 150 becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m³), or higher. It says to consider fixing between 2 and 4 pCi/L (75 to 150 Bq/m³). EPA also notes that the radon action level should comply with the guidance of the state or local jurisdiction where the test is done.
- The follow-up rules come from EPA's testing steps. A first short-term test of 4 pCi/L or higher gets a follow-up test. A first result more than twice that gets a second short-term test right away.
- It cannot see your home. It does not know how the test was done, where the kit sat or whether doors and windows stayed closed. A badly done test can mislead, so see our guide to testing correctly.
Need a test or a second test?
Testing is the only way to know your radon level. A mail-in kit is a low-cost way to start, and our guide shows how to place it so the result is reliable.
